Showtime undercuts HBO with $10.99 stand-alone streaming service

Recommended Posts

Showtime is launching an internet TV service that will offer access to its back catalog, its current selection of movies, and live streams of its network for $10.99 per month. The service launches on Sunday, July 12th, and it'll first be available through the Showtime app on the iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV; subscribers can also watch online. Unlike HBO, Showtime isn't giving the service a new name

Good news except for the Apple exclusivity stuff. That's lame and HBO did it too.

Is HBO available to non-Apple devices yet?

September it will be available on other platforms, Android already confirmed.

If AMC would do this for about the same price I would gladly sub to HBO, SHO and AMC for $35ish a month in a second. That and a netflix account would be half of what an average cable bill would be that included those services and it would be only content that I actually want. Not 500 channels of nothing or repeats.

This is a step in the right direction. Also this is already a great thing for cord cutters, they're winning. Between SHO and HBO that is (IMO) most of the high quality content on TV anyways.

Well I'm thinking something like Xbox or PlayStation, anything but Apple TV. I don't want to have to buy into an ecosystem just for one service. That's almost as bad as being locked in to the cable company in the first place. I'll just wait it out.

HBO has been available for multiple devices (including the 360) for almost two years in the nordic countries.

That ticked me off about HBO.

"We are now un-bundling from Cable! ... ... to now bundle with Apple!"

Showtime is doing the same thing by only being on assPhone, assPad, and assTV. :(

What? No it isn't.

HBO Go is for cable subscribers. HBO Now is a streaming service for everyone, which is exactly what HBO Nordic is. I don't think you can even get HBO on cable TV here in Scandinavia.

HBO Nordic is a streaming solution that costs ~15USD per month and gives access to all of HBOs content. No strings attached.
