Windows server 2012: windows patches failed to installed.

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, Requires your assistance on below issue. We have windows server 2012 Standard edition, act as a Domain Controller. When we try to install following windows security updates (KB2918614, KB2976897, KB2978668) on same server it's got installed without any error. however this patches require a reboot to take effects. But when we reboot the server, we received below error message.

"Failure configuration windows updates Reverting changes"

Is there any solution to install those patches on server without any issues?

Not yet tried by skipping KB2918614... we will try this weekend and let you know.

But the same KB has successfully installed in our rest DC's!! so why this issue for single server?

Hi Jared,

We have installed successfully KB2976897, KB2978668 but KB2918614  is not being installed yet. Faced same problem with this one particular KB...

Any idea how we can install this third one as well?

Many thanks...

why don't you look at the event viewer of the affected server and see what logs when that update tries to install and fails?

Didn't found any helpful event in event viewer, but as per the "WindowsUpdate.log" we found below details.

Disable SecureBoot before you install the patches. Re-enable it *after* you have booted to the desktop and the patches are installed (not during the update reboot). Assuming it's the same issue I had.
