Mercedes C220 W204 2010

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

We have recently bought a C220 manual 6 speed (non facelift) and was wondering if anyone had experience with one in terms of gear changes. Gear changes are smooth but moving the lever all the way to the left (British car RHD) is a quite tough. Extra effort is needed to push the lever into position, but moving the lever up to reverse is again smooth.

Is this by design or is this something I should get looked at.

Cheers,

I own a W204, but I can't answer your question...

It is probably best asked on MBWorld W204 forum that I frequent.

It can take a while to get an answer, but you'll get a wider cross section of people there; including a few MB Master Techs.

Did you buy an extended warranty for the car?

No I didn't, it was from a local dealer. They do offer a 30 day warranty but that's only engine and gearbox.

I'll check that forum for answers too. I've asked a few other people (who don't have mercs btw) and they it's normal. I don't think it is.

I would go to an appraiser that can evaluate the condition of the car. These kind of issues can get serious in the long run.

Your local MB centre will hook up your car to Star and run through a bunch of tests to see if everything is on the level.

If you are out of warranty then you will not be able to do much without seeing a nice bill. So I would get this done sooner rather than later.

Googling around and it seems that it's normal for there to be resistance when going in for reverse. one person measured the force required and it came to 11KG! excessive compared to my old VW.
