What ethernet cable is good for 35m outdoor

Hi,

 

I am looking for an ethernet cable that is good for the use of 35 meters and to go outdoors across under a drain. I have search everywhere and can't find anything.

 

Any recommendations?

Are you anywhere in an area that has lightning strikes? If so stop, get multimode fiber, and 2 CAT5 to fiber converters and run that instead, Otherwise you are going to be changing out network hardware on each end on a regular basis.

Everyone's going to hate me for this, but I used normal every day general purpose cat 6 cable and laid it on the outside of my house as a temporary measure. Originally planned to replace it within a few months with proper cable buried in conduit, laziness prevailed and I never got round to it.

Three years later and it's still in perfect condition, not a single kb lost.

P.s. I live in the Scottish highlands, the weather is not kind to us. No one is more surprised than me that it is still fine.

You can get outdoor ethernet which has a thicker outer cable and if you want shielding. Its great until something eats through it

35 meters, you can buy 100 ft premade.. While yes its best to do it correctly with conduit, etc. etc..  You would be surprised at how well just normal cat 5e or 6 cable would work..

edit: as to lightning strikes - where exactly is there that doesn't get these on the planet?   How would cat 5 or 6 be any different than say the cable tv rg6 cable they lay everywhere.. Those are not taken out every other storm, etc.

It's also going to cary PoE to power a Ubiquiti UAP-PRO WiFi point. Multimode fiber converters look extremely expensive way of doing things. I don't think lightning is an issue as its running so low on the ground I would have thought?

When search for cable in your region just use the words direct bury or outdoor, etc... Not sure of the best places to buy cable in UK -- but outside cable is very common.

We've just laid loads of runs of Ubiquiti's own ToughCable Carrier around the site at work, its great quality stuff, but might be a bit pricey to buy a whole box if all you're going to use is 35m of it
