How much for this old PC?

Recommended Posts

I'm stuck with an old 2007 PC. The optical drive is defective, so here's what remains:

Coolermaster Centurion 5 case

Core 2 Duo E4400 CPU

2GB of DDR2 RAM

Gigabyte P35-DS3R

Radeon HD 4890

Antec Trio 550W

Some hard drive, maybe 500GB-1TB

No peripherals. I could put a version of Windows 7 32-bit on it.

How much do you think I could ask for that? Don't really feel like buying an optical drive for the small price it'll sell at, but I might if it's worth it.

there are some shops here selling refurbished Dells with Windows 7 with specs similar to those for 90$, so i say you can sell for 50$ or less. Sorry, but it's pretty old machine by now.

I dunno, add more ram and an SSD and that machine will be smoke'n!

Interesting... The least expensive SSD is 87$ after taxes + about 50$ to replace the 2x1GB RAM with 2x2GB or 1x4GB of DDR2 (buying new DDR2 ram in 2015 would feel so wrong), + let's say 20$ for an optical drive, so about 160$ of upgrades. So I'd then need to sell that computer at least 200$ just to make a reasonable profit out of it. How much do you think that would sell?

Correct. Makes no sense if your going to sell it. But if you wanted to use it for something... I Love me some Core 2's

Pay for shipping and I can donate it to somone in need for you or you can just find someone near you.  No monitor? No optical drive? It's worthless (assuming you live in the US) and it would only be worth something if it was a laptop. I work at a library and the PCs we send to a recycler have similiar specs.

You are not going to make any money by adding RAM or a SSD unless you have them laying around already and not being used. You think this is a house or something?

donating seem like a good idea, someone might need it.    i will place it on ebayclassifieds or craiglist  for free (or TOPS of $50 bucks) and see if someone will pick it up from you.

no one who needs a pc will likely pick it up for $$$ though, since it is an old and incomplete package.

(now if it had monitor, keyboard and mouse - someone might be more interested to get them)

So far I've managed to make 100$ out of the parts and haven't sold the PSU or hard drive yet. Some people actually want this stuff.

What site you used? And which parts you sold?

Now I am curious :)
