Zune Software v4.8 in my Windows Update today

Recommended Posts

So today I ran Windows update on my work PC running Win 8.1 Pro, and as a surprise, I saw that the Zune software, v4.8 was listed in one of the optional updates. This came as a bit of a surprise as I thought Zune as a platform was dead? Perhaps a bug on the Windows Update side that shouldn't be released or are there plans for it that I may have missed? Anyone else see it?

I have a Windows Phone and the desktop software associated with that. But I've had my Icon for a year now, so surprised its just showing up now if thats the reason.

I have it to. ITs showing up in my registry as zune music and zune video. I used to have a zxune30gig a LONG time ago but since then my current windows 8.1 enterprise install has been freshly installed.

I wonder if part of microsofts 8.1 apps are based on the old zune software. Some of the zune registry keys that I found point  to xbox.com . IF I have it right it seems to be pointing to a metro app.

I found it. XBOX music seems to be based off of the old zune software. I found it under zune music in the hidden directory that metro apps get installed. The directory states zune music but the images folder under the directory shows xbox music . Seems like a bug in windows update. finds the xbox music directory and registry files so it gives you zune software.
