Krumb, a new social network

Recommended Posts

Working on a new social network and after months of work finally ready to share the first results. In short, we made a social network that is completely location based, you can find more information on http://www.krumb.eu

At the moment we have two apps, one made in swift for ios: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/krumb/id958848912?mt=8

And one for android (still very much in beta though) made with xamarin: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.krumb.android

We're planning on porting the android xamarin app to a windows universal app in the future. The backend is completely azure based and very scalable. Let me know what you think :)

An alternative for facebook?

I'll have to keep a lookout for this, small businesses are trolled into oblivion at the moment, this might just be the break needed.

So, this is app only? You really need a website for people who don't want to pull their phones out all the time

The problem is that that would break the concept of "only here", location services in the browser are not always accurate enough

most modern browsers are location aware if you have location ability in the OS not just using IP Geolocation or only using IP geolocation as a fallback if GPS or Assisted GPS isn't available so it you are using a tablet say a windows one with GPS you'd get pretty good location data...

People don't care about location, no matter if it's accurate or not.. They all do is access the web or app.

I'll write it down as a todo and relay it to the people whose idea it was, windows tablets will be supported with a universal app after the android app is complete. It's just so much work/money to get everything up and running on two platforms, we'll be adding more in the future :)

maybe, but the entire app is based around location, it's kind of the core concept :p. So you can disagree with the concept, and that's fine, but I can't make a client that allows people to see krumbs from a location where they are not (and yes, I know that it is always possible to get around that) because that would break the entire vision.

The world doesn't really need more social networks.

i prefer no social networks myself, but as the rest of the world doesn't want it that way, i opt for more fragmented social networks.

Great concept! And from Belgium :) Too bad I have to wait for a Windows Phone app. I'm looking forward to it.
