The idea behind Dlink DSP w215 Wi-Fi Smart Plug's WPS

Hello.

I want to design an app to automate the connection of mobile devices with an local router.

I've come across this device as an example for automation between routers supporting something called WPS.

It is said that only the WPS buttons on both devices are pressed.

 

Could someone please explain more about this idea or possibly what idea they've used?

There really isn't much more to say.  You push the WPS button on the router and then on your device and you're done.  Many many routers have WPS nowadays.

Yep no password required hence s very insecure system to have enabled

WPS in its current form is BAD...  not secure and really should be disabled on any device that supports it.
