Did anyone try running Android on their Windows tablet?

probably not as an actual usage OS. to inefficient, mostly just to test stuff when developing.

for running android apps, you're better off with something that works more seamless with the OS to run android apps like BlueStacks.

Thanks Hawkman,

I just wanted to get it in order to run their video player apps, youtube app (there is no youtube app on Windows marketplace) and other apps to make the tablet more touch friendly, not to mention taking advantage of the apps that we already bought.

If I get bluestacks, can I use APK's directly in the OS? I don't really need the full Android experience, just to fill the app gap.

For Youtube I find Megatube works well.

Did they update it?  Last time I checked it didn't work anymore.

Whatever, after using Megatube for a LONG time and having now switched to Tubecast, I should tell you that, IMO, Tubecast is MUCH better.

I find it works on my tower, but not on my SurfRT. But I'll give Tubecast a try.

I am trying to do the other way around, install windows in an android tablet.

I have lollipop 5.1 X86 64 bit with GAPPS running with kernel 4.0 on my xe700t with the libhoudini libraries from fugu up and running. I got all hardware working on it as well including rotation sensor. It is currently tri booting from grub2 with windows 10 and ubuntu. I suggest to stay away from emulators and run androidx86.

It is possible to install Windows in a Mediatek MT8121 tablet? specifically the Lenovo A5500-F

Why would I want a phone OS on a computer?

tablet computer

Learn to think.

LOL, android is far from being just a phone OS. it is very much a tablet computer OS too, you know.   might not be designed for mouse and keyboard, but for a tablet, it is perfect too.

by the way, smartphones are also computers, in case you did not know.  if tablets are computers, then smartphone are too.    so no need to be a smartass ;)

It might be possible to do this, but it would take a working knowledge of the NAND and boot loader setup and a copy of Windows RT. Anything is possible, windows CE was booted nativly on the HD2 a few years back

Because it's not a phone OS? I guess you haven't seen all the Android tablets going about lol. In fact I'm running Android x86 4.4 on my desktop PC. It works great :)

I've been trying to get it get Android to run on my HP Stream 8 Windows tablet forever, so it could actually be useful.

Thanks, currently, it doesn't seem to work (possibly after youtube layout change) it doesn't work. It's throwing errors connecting to facebook unless you use it in browser mode, which is just YT website. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Tubecast is really good, after last round of make-believe clients on Windows Surface, I had given up on using those 3rd party YT clients, but TubeCast is actually very good. Considering it is not limited and things don't start disappearing after X number of uses (other than casting feature) I think it's a very usable YT client. Thanks for this. Now if TubeCast could incorporate local videos from onboard storage, we would have a extremely capable and touch friendly multimedia center, which I was discussing here: https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1260754-help-me-keep-my-10-win-81-tablet

Youtube was just an example that came to mind right off the bat, but you can just substitute anything else that's android-only like some of those tools you can find on Play Store. However, if we can do the same with BlueStacks, I think I'll definitely consider that.

You could try and dual boot with ConsoleOS, that's supposed to be a pretty good Android distro for Windows tablets.

Thanks! I will add this to my first post in case more people want to do the same thing, it's odd that I didn't see any noticeable threads on running Android side by side with Win 8.1 on Intel Tablets (Non-ARM)  *Sorry, I cannot edit the 1st post, not letting me.

It has come a long way, not to mention Android still excels in touch input and simplicity when it comes to running on a tablet. Win 8.1 has a lot of catching up to do, but I trust Win 10 will address all those issues. Win 8.1 doesn't even have customizable touch gestures, let alone universal ones.

Thanks for all the replies, so far we don't really have anyone using it actively but we have some good ideas & suggestions, and I hope to hear more about Android options that we can consider on a 10" (or 8" / 7") Windows tablets to cover for those missing functions.
