MightyJordan
Bit weird that they've also announced a 1TB "old" version (two-tone look and presumably none of the improvements mentioned above) at the same time. +E.Worm Jimmy 1 Share

Jason S. Global Moderator Posted June 22, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted June 22, 2015 funny that they named the "ultimate player" version, and it's only 1TB. To me, 'ultimate' would mean 6TB, right? honestly, 1TB should have been default for the Xbone and PS4 from day one. Even then they'd still be sticking slow ass 5200RPM drives in them. It's really best to go for a 7200RPM or hybrid of your own. I'll be trying to get a matte hard drive cover now for mine. Wouldn't consider upgrading the PS4 itself till the slim model appears. trooper11
It is quite strange that it takes Sony and MS till the first console revision to realize that matte is nice. I would have loved this option at launch for both. Now I will happily wait for slim consoles to swap anything out.

Also i think it should of been 2TB. trooper11 1 Share

compl3x
Prefer glossy myself even with it's "drawbacks", Strange man I keep all of my stuff super clean; I have allergies that flare-up if I neglect cleaning everything, but I cannot avoid dust and fingerprints getting all over the glossy plastics in my house. Oh, and if you use even a slightly abrasive cleaning cloth your glossy product will be a scratched, glossy product.

No - "ultimate" would be a 4 yottabyte version, with massive parallel processors, a dark fiber connection to a quantum computer .... and some bling

T3X4S
You tried nasonex for your allergies? Nasonex does nothing for allergies. Its a decongestant, it treats a symptom of allergies. (clogged sinuses)
compl3x
You tried nasonex for your allergies? My allergies aren't super terrible, but if I neglect cleaning for ~week and the dust gets stirred up I suffer a bit. Plus, I am kind of a neat-freak so I feel compelled to clean everything anyway. +Asmodai MVC Posted June 29, 2015 MVC Share Posted June 29, 2015 Buttons have gone mechanical which is better than the touch buttons I always mix up. I'm curious, do people actually use the buttons on the actual device that often? I've had my PS4 since launch and I could count the number of times I've touched the buttons on the device on the fingers of one hand. Now I have to admit that on those rare occasions I do forget which is which and sometimes I'm not sure it even registered but for something I've done like 4 times in almost 2 years now it's really not a big deal. I power on/off and eject discs via the controller 99.9% of the time. The only time I don't was the first time before the controllers were sync'd and when there is a power outage and they need to be resync'd.

Don't know why I don't use the controller more. Guess it's just habit over the years and all the consoles I've owned lol.

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted July 1, 2015 Author Subscriber² Share Posted July 1, 2015 Motherboard size difference. Shouldn't be too long before we get the Slim. +Asmodai 1 Share
+Asmodai MVC Posted July 6, 2015 MVC Share Posted July 6, 2015 Apparently the big difference is Samsung's new 8Gb GDDR5 RAM chips (20nm process). This is twice the capacity of the launch chips (28nm process) so requires half the chips on the board and uses less power. That allowed them to redesign the mobo and use a smaller power supply. The APU has a new model number but is the same since so appears to be essentially the same. Samsung announced the new chips back in Jan. Source This may be all we get this year since fabs have been having trouble with the 20nm process for high power (non-mobile) GPUs and such (Even the new AMD Radeon Fury X is still 28nm.) We'll likely have to wait for the 14nm high power FinFET process to take off next year (low power chips/mobile chips are out now) to see the APU shrink and a true "slim" model arrive. Here's a link to the teardown if anyone is interested: Source (Japanese - since this model is only available there)
