microsoft compatibility telemetry service

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm running build 10047 W10 and I noticed this service is letting my harddrive run overtime;

Service: microsoft compatibility telemetry

I know this service is to collect all kind of data so MS can improve W10 but is their any way to shut it down /prevent starting itself?

Open an elevated command prompt, and enter the 2 following commands one after one another (This will remove tracking services completely). If for whatever reason you need to get the services back, you can do so by running sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt

sc delete DiagTrack
sc delete dmwappushservice

Warning

sfc does not bring back deleted registry entries which is precisely what this does.

Oops, forgot that little detail.

But as the telemetry can't actually be turned off, it's the only useful option open to you. Sorry.
