jnelsoninjax
I just put my new 8 core CPU in and tried Hatred which plays real good, but lagged like crazy on the quad. So I'm wondering what new games are out or coming out that take advantage of the new technology. System specs: CPU AMD FX-8370

Jim K Global Moderator Posted June 25, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted June 25, 2015 I think you'll find CPU intensive titles (like BF4) usually don't scale well past 4 cores (threads) and the bottleneck isn't the CPU but the GPU. I honestly can not think of games right now except BF4, Crysis 3 and Witcher 3 (I know there are others)...however... Your bottleneck would be that 7700. jnelsoninjax
Sadly I agree that the GPU is slow. I would like to upgrade it to an Nvidia. What would a decent card be to upgrade to?
Jim K Global Moderator Posted June 25, 2015 Global Moderator Share Posted June 25, 2015 970, 980, 980ti, Titan Z would all be better than the 7700. Everything depends on your budget though.

jnelsoninjax
I'm thinking about the GTX960 it's reasonably priced, or should I spent a little more and get a 4GB card?
trag3dy
I'm thinking about the GTX960 it's reasonably priced, or should I spent a little more and get a 4GB card? http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-128bit-Graphics-04G-P4-3966-KR/dp/B00UOYQ5LA/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1435267833&sr=1-2&keywords=gtx+960 Go with that version. It's a little more spendy but comes with a better cooler and more vram. Plus evga is the brand you want if you're going nvidia. Life time warranties and such and very good reliability. They also have the 90 day step up program. So if you decide you want something better you can use the program to get it. You just have to pay the difference. jnelsoninjax
^ Nice card, and a decent price, hopefully i am able to afford it soon!
Raa
I don't know any games that will use that many cores. Duals are used often (now), but more than that isn't common. I'd also question whether it's going to provide a lot of benefit, games utilise more GPU than they do with CPU, but I imagine DX12 will change that somewhat? +E.Worm Jimmy Subscriber¹ Posted June 25, 2015 Subscriber¹ Share Posted June 25, 2015 i willl chime in with everyone saying that it is not the processor # of cores that is slowing you down here. i am glad you saw improvements in one game, but do not expect much improvement overall with that GPU
Lizardslap
I just got a new card from an rma woo evga and they sent me this http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-128bit-Graphics-04G-P4-3966-KR/dp/B00UOYQ5LA/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1435267833&sr=1-2&keywords=gtx+960 the small profile one this card sits at 96c and cools down slowly.
