Black Screen - Windows 8.1 - ONLY cursor

Question

Hey guys. First off I made my own gaming PC! Only one problem, black screen on start up sad.png
When I boot up my computer the Windows icon shows, with the wheel turning. When I get to the sign in page, my screens will flicker black quick and then go black. I am able to move my cursor around but cannot sign in or CTRL + ULT + DEL to get into task manager.
-- My computer will load fine if I boot into safe mode, sign in then restart. After that it shows Windows and let's me sign in. The trouble with this is I have to sleep the computer when I'm not using it, or next time I get on I have to start this task l over again.

Can you get in to Safe Mode?  If so, remove the video drivers and restart.  A lot of these kind of issues are video related.

If this happens in safe mode, then try to boot to the install/repair CD and restore the system to a previous point.  And you can also boot to the install CD, exit to a command prompt, and run sfc /scannow to repair/replace files.

Had this issue a few times at work but system restore is disabled.  Had to reimage the machine and things were fine after.  So this shouldnt be a hardware issue.

EDIT:  Saw you edited your post.  If safe mode works, try removing the video drivers and rebooting.  Also, run MSCONFIG and go to the startup tab.  Disable anything from loading at startup and see if Windows loads properly.  If so, re-enable things one by one until you find the problem.

Strange - I shut down my computer and was going to try Win+P at the black screen to change displays, but I received no black screen. My PC just booted up fine all by itself. I've NEVER had this happen before. Very very strange, I've shut down and back on a couple times and it seems to work normal now. I'll try your steps of it continues in the future. Thank you!
