Windows.edb is eating the Space on C , need best way to reduce or change location

Recommended Posts

Hi

even i am moving files to other drives but after checking files sizes

Windows.edb is getting half of my C Space and now still growing

the thing is i want indexing to be there and even with more search options but i think this is something wrong in windows 8

how to fix it ? any solution from micrsosoft ?

is changing file location causing any delay or make system more slow ?

what to do ? i read some telling about changing place of files but i dont want to rebuild as it will take too much time

Thanks

In the control panel under Indexing Options you can specify "New location, after the service is restarted."  Give it a new directory on a different partition, stop the service, move the file then restart the service.  If the database is ridiculously huge though you may just want to go ahead and let it rebuild, the performance hit is negligible as it only runs while the system is idle anyway.  Let it run and go to lunch.

Try this

  1. Open "Indexing Options"
  2. Run "services.msc" and find and stop "Windows Search"
  3. Delete the Windows.edb file
  4. Click "Modify" in the already-open "Indexing Options" panel, then click "Delete and Rebuild" for the index. You can also specify a different drive to store the index on.
