Narcos Season 2 Trailer & Poster: The Hunt for Pablo is On

Quote

After the release of the first season in August 2015, the newest chapter of Narcos is coming to Netflix on September 2nd – and it looks pretty promising. The story began with Pablo Escobar’s rise in Columbia during the 1970s manufacturing cocaine and ended with his escape, making Narcos’ latest season all about the DEA’s war to capture him.

With last season’s slow start, which introduced Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) and established his rise to power, season 2 appears to be chock-full of the action and suspense viewers have been waiting for, as executive producer Jose Padilha explained in his recent panel at the Television Critics Association. The show is about drug trafficking, after all, and Pablo Escobar is merely a figure within it.

Netflix released the trailer for the second season of Narcos earlier this morning, using the hashtag #WhoKilledPablo? The clock is ticking, literally, while the trailer opens with a flash of news reports repeating Pablo’s name. The game of cat and mouse is coming to a head, and “Pablo is never more dangerous than when you almost have him.” With the DEA, Search Bloc, Cali Cartel, and Los Pepes ready for war, the trailer indicates that this upcoming season will be more than a chronicle of Pablo Escobar’s career.

It’s yet to be seen whether the creators of the show – Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard, and Doug Miro – have responded to viewers’ critiques, but the trailer’s serious tone clearly suggests that Narcos is going in a different direction. The transformation between each season’s trailers is stark; both carry the same true crime themes, but season 1 had a much cooler vibe, with Pablo establishing himself as a man to be feared, embracing the cool guy persona that audiences have seen in characters like Jordan Belfort in Wolf of Wall Street and Irving Rosenfeld in American Hustle.

It’s hard not to be intrigued by this Netflix original. From Breaking Bad to House of Cards to Dexter, the story of the anti-hero is a popular one. Pablo Escobar isn’t the most sympathetic anti-hero out there, and yet it remains an addictive account of a very bad man. That being said, after watching the show’s newest trailer, Narcos doesn’t appear to be any more sympathetic towards the other players in this game either.

Narcos season 2 will be available on Netflix on September 2, 2016.

Alocation scout for hit Netflix show Narcos was shot dead in Mexico while looking for places to film the programme's fourth season.

Carlos Muñoz Portal, 37, was found dead in his car, his body riddled with bullets, in Temascalapa, a violent region in central Mexico that lies 60km from Mexico City.

Police have said they are having difficulty investigating the circumstances of the death, as there is a lack of witnesses due to the area's sparse population.

Netflix has said that the circumstances of his death are "still unknown".

Mr Portal is reported to have been killed on Monday, but the news of his death only broke last night (SAT). His car was found parked on an unnamed dirt road in the San Bartolo Actopan area.

The location scout was in the area taking photographs of places in which Netflix could film Narcos, a critically-acclaimed drama about the drug cartels and violence of Colombia.

The fourth season shifts focus from Colombia to Mexico, centering on the terrifying Juarez cartel.

In a statement, Netflix said: "We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family.

"The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate."

A friend of Mr Portal, who remained anonymous, told the newspaper El Pais in Spanish he fears that criminals mistakenly thought he was spying on them.

"Maybe they thought he was collecting information and they started tracking him in a car," he said.

Mr Portal was from Pueblo, California, and had a distinguished career as a location scout, working on films including Man on Fire, Apocalypto, and the Fast and Furious franchise.

He also worked on the most recent James Bond film, Spectre, which begins with a memorable sequence of a Day of Dead parade in Mexico City
