Taliseian
Greetings, I was working on a friends HP laptop and some started a secure erase using Parted Magic, I didn't because I know better - 500g mechanical drive - and I t was interrupted part way through. Now the drive is unable to be seen when trying to install Windows, but is visible in BIOS (every boot forces disk diagnostics before I can boot from a disc or USB). Right now, it's running an 00 wipe on every sector - eta 18hrs Is there anything I can do to reset the drive or has it been bricked. Thanks for any help... gameboy1977
maybe it sound like bad sector in the hard drive?
Anibal P
Did you try a quick format from the install disk? Seems a bit overkill to use a "secure" erase for an OS reinstall
Open Minded
You should be able to delete the partition in Windows 7 or 8 (I think). To get there, can you pull the hard drive, go into the BIOS and stop automatic diagnostics? Set the boot priority to USB or wherever the recovery is then change it back after Windows is done installing.
Mando
if disk management doesn't see/allow deletion of the partition, grab Gparted linux bootdisk and nuke it that way.
Roger H. Veteran Posted August 3, 2015 Veteran Share Posted August 3, 2015 From the boot disk just do a Diskpart then do clean cmd and that should sort it out.
+BudMan MVC Posted August 3, 2015 MVC Share Posted August 3, 2015 Yeah I would think diskpart clean would do it.
