Nidonocu
Does anyone with USB cable modems have a "it's safe to remove hardware" icon in their notification area? One which if clicked, disconnects the modem. If so, is there a way to remove it?

Weasel
True USB is slower than ethernet, but the speed difference isn't noticable. Low end ethernet cards are 10,000 kbps (nowadays most are 100,000). But as it is Cable modems won't transfer at anything higher than 1000 kbps, I get 500 usually. So even if USB was 10 times slower than ethernet it wouldn't make a difference. Now about the systray icon...I have a coupld of USB devices and the only way to get rid of it (that I know of) is to go to taskbar properties and select "always hide", requires XP though obviously.
