Microsoft unveils Windows Server 2016 and System Center 2016 Technical Preview 4

Microsoft has been fairly busy over the past couple of weeks, releasing new builds for Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile. Now, the company is releasing a new Technical Preview for Windows Server 2016 and System Center 2016.

Today, Microsoft announced the release of Technical Preview 4 of Windows Server 2016 and System Center 2016. The new preview will bring new features and enhancements that build on the previous iterations released earlier this year. Microsoft has laid out some of the improvements that they have implemented, which were brought about by user feedback.

  • Application platform features, including new capabilities for Nano Server, Windows Server Containers updates and – new in this release – Hyper-V Containers, offer great opportunities for modern app development.
  • Software-defined datacenter capabilities, across storage, networking, and compute, let you reduce cost and increase agility. New security features help address evolving threats and new threat vectors.
  • Enhanced management capabilities, to give you advanced software-defined datacenter support and intuitive monitoring improvements.

Although there is a lot to dive through, one of the more important elements to the latest preview is the addition of Hyper-V Containers. According to Microsoft, Hyper-V Containers will "offer an additional deployment option for scenarios requiring a higher level of isolation," It will also allow "flexibility of the container model with the additional isolation provided by a container-optimized version of Hyper-V."
