Hand me downs (help me build it)

Recommended Posts

Throwing together a quick PC for the kids here.  They're hand me down parts.  Really want to go as cheap as possible, example, a PSU that is "just enough" to feed the CPU and GPU without OC.

Already have:

CPU: Core2 Quad q6600

GPU: xfx 5870 (AMD)
Mobo: P31-ES3G
500GB Hard Drive

Need:
Case, DDR2 RAM (4GB if possible?)  and PSU.

(mobo info for reference) Since I'd opt for 4GB (2x2GB) and the CPU isn't a 1333 bus chip, should I get 1066 or 800mhz sticks?  This is what had me confused as some reviews said 1066 would default to 800 on this board or something weird...

This is a system I almost put together back when it was fresh, but someone advised me to put together an i7 920 system instead.  So over the years this just sat around, but now I'd like to assemble it for the kids here.  Thanks folks :)

For the psu, a 550 watts should be sufficient for your needs.  You can't put an i7 920 unless you get a new mobo and ddr 3 ram.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146075  ( VGA Clearance Maximum 230mm w/ hard drive, 330mm w/o hard drive).  I believe your video card is around 280mm (you may want to measure) so it will be fine without a hard drive in the way. -$30 after rebate/free shipping

All three components for under 100 bucks.
