Eye candy is everything, and early on in the game, some of them may be worth it. One on Xbox that's not on PC makes non-predatory animals less apt to run. Makes hunting much easier at the beginning of the game. The healing ones are good too. I think it'll be more satisfying and more challenging than if you play it after you've finished the main game. It's also a little short taken by itself.
