outlook 2016 open "shared" calendar

Hello, I am a long time PC user and have had to make the switch to a Mac for work.

 

In outlook, on the PC, I can open people's calendars with restrictions (busy/open, no details). I would like to do this on a mac but it's proving impossible... Every user has to specifically share their calendar with me which is not possible in a large organization.

 

Is there a trick to this? is it a fundamental restriction? I haven't been able to google relevant information.
