mikekirk
My father-in-law wants to buy a new PC, nothing too exciting, a mid-range model probably up to around £600. I'm looking everywhere and the likes of Dell, HP, PC World none of them seem to offer models with SSDs in them; mostly crappy 5400rpm HDDs. I've been out of the PC scene for some time, but I thought the likes of Dell at least would allow you to configure a model with an SSD. I could build him one, or buy one and immediately put an SSD in it but I don't think he'll do for that. Does anyone have any suggestions of where I might look for a retail desktop tower with an SSD? mikekirk
Although just found that HP actually do seem to offer a fair few models with SSDs
Mindovermaster Moderator Posted June 11, 2016 Moderator Share Posted June 11, 2016 Why not buy a desktop, and buy your own SSD?
Grinch
Where I work whenever we order a machine for a client we just get one with a typical hard drive and install an SSD ourselves with a fresh install of Windows.
+Warwagon MVC Posted June 11, 2016 MVC Share Posted June 11, 2016 ya it's sad that desktop systems don't have ssd's but Consumers don't know about fast SSD's They care more about the size of the drive (how many TB's it has) than the speed. flynempire
You don't see advertised retail systems and usually OEM systems with SSD. Consumers usually do not know about SSD and look for the largest amount of disc space they can get like Gigabytes or Terabytes. If SSD prices start to come down and become more abundant then that should change. You will also notice often times they show the size of the hard drive but not the speed and that pisses me off. Sometimes when I configure a system I see a large drive but at the end I end up with 5400 rpm and I dont want that! +Warwagon 1 Share

One thing I had to explain to people when I was a tech was - (1) they were probably only using about 30% of their HDD and I'd have to correct them when they ask the inevitable : "Is it full ? Is that why it slow ?" When I see consumer systems with more than 8GB RAM - I think of all that wasted memory that could be better utilized speeding up systems that need it instead of it being wasted on morons who say things like "well I saved it in Microsoft..I think"
+InsaneNutter MVC Posted July 3, 2016 MVC Share Posted July 3, 2016 Choose and configure a PC from CCL Computers and just add an SSD. Scan will also let you customise a PC to your liking and add an SSD.
