Replacing IP address in URL

Question

Hello,

I'm decent at making websites but need help with some server basics.

On all of my MDD sites the url starts with the IP address. Is there a way to hide the IP address, or replace it with a domain name?  I've used URL masking but dislike the way it is implemented in that it messes up my media queries.

thanks!

Hi,

you need a System Admin, who can configure DNS for you, or just buy a Domain Name and point that IP to your domain name.

If your websites are on an internal network, then the system administrator should be able to sort out DNS records so that it can be browsed to by a URL rather than IP, but only on the internal network.

If your websites are on the Internet, then you will need to use a website-hosting company and they will be able to manage the DNS records.
