Computer monitor just failed

Recommended Posts

Was watching a video, when suddenly the sound and video stopped.

I thought it was the video card, so I switched it out.

Nothing.

Hooked up my XP/7 PC.

Still nothing.

Figured out the TV/monitor went bad.

This isn't even a year old.

Not buying Vizio products again.

I am so spoiled with a 32 inch screen, I can barely stand using this old Asus monitor.

Almost feel like driving to Wally world and pick up an LG .....

i got a 24" 1080p ASUS VW246H monitor, which i had since early 2010, and ill likely have it for years to come as it's big enough for general computer usage. if i need something bigger to watch videos etc ill just simply use my video cards HDMI output to my 43" 1080p TV which i got connected as it's basically a dual monitor thing. i use the TV for playing movies using my PC's HDMI port with a 20' HDMI cable connected to the LG 43" 1080p TV and it works great.

That's a bummer, Hum! Sorry to hear about that, buddy! I've talked to a few people who like those LG wally-world monitors, but as always, YMMV. My dad buys Vizio stuff, and he's always had problems with that particular brand.

I have a 26 inch Asus, I believe, probably since 2010 as well.

Using it now for my back-up.

At least it works ....

Resolved

I hooked up the TV/monitor to see if the Cable TV input still worked.

It does.

Then I noticed that there are 2 HDMI inputs.

Number 2 still works.

Why one would fail and not the other is a mystery to me.

But thank goodness .... :D

I'm glad that you got it sorted but yeah I never head of anything like that.

^ Thanks, But I've been thinking about 4K for a long time.

$1000 is a bit salty tho.  Many PCs don't cost that much.

Um the resolution is 1920x1080

the cost of the monitor was £199 when I bought it, so maybe $230-$250 US, but yes, if you're in the market for a 4K...

My screwy Vizio and my Asus are both full HD, 1980 X 1080.

I do think my Asus is a little higher in pixel density.

So my experience has made me appreciate the Asus more. :/

Full HD IS 1920X1080, there's no such thing as 1980X1080

so is this a TV your using as monitor?  Or actual monitor with 2 hdmi inputs?

Both, I reckon.

Not bad looking, if it is adjusted right, on Computer mode.

A far cry from the 1996 Windows 95 monitors !

There is a difference.. Your going to get a better picture via actual monitor.. Does it have a tuner?  If so then is a TV and your paying extra for that if your just going to use it as monitor..  Right tool for the right job I always say.

Ouch - that bites, Hum.  My own Acer XH233H.bmid (bought at Staples) is still going strong - almost a decade of running strong (it dates back to that stimulus package and that one-time bonus payout to OASDI recipients - which is how I bought it).  The only input type it lacks is DisplayPort (uncommon on monitors of that year except at the high end) but supports D-sub (uncommon on displays today; it also supports DVI of both sorts (single-link AND dual-link) along with HDMI (and included cables for DVI and HDMI); Acer is pretty much the only display company that includes input cables for every accepted input sort with their displays - and they have done that longer than I've had my own display; surprisingly, ASUS - for all the excellence in display picture quality, does NOT do that even with their ROG Swifts, let alone their other displays.

It can happen; however, the usual reason for multiple HDMI inputs is to accept multiple video sources (this is common on both TVs and monitors; my Sony BX450 has dual HDMI inputs as well (only one is in use - for my Tivo Premiere - a second is only in use occasionally by other devices - such as my newer notebook that supports HDMI-out).

Thanks.

Maybe that's why they put in 2 HDMI -- in case of failure. :p

Redundancy FTW! I'm glad you got it sorted, man! Good job!!!

LG Makes good monitors as does DELL.

Indeed they both do. I've got an old Dell flat panel sitting here that has lasted for at LEAST ten years, and it's low res, mind you, it still works! It's nothing fancy, but it'll get me by IN CASE something happens! Has MANY times. Still pushing on strong, and I even replaced the capacitors on purpose, that way I knew it would always work. Never let me down, either. LG....yes, they make really good ones too, especially for the lower price. I have had more than one dealing with LG, and their products have never let me down, nor anyone else that I know, for that matter, either. I digress.....Good for you, Hum! (Y) (If it matters)

.

I was smitten by the big screen.

32 inches -- I can easily open 2 web pages, side-by-side.

It is designed to be smart TV and/or monitor.

Unless you do graphic design or fancy video editing, it really is a good picture.

The average person would be thrilled with this Vizio.

But yes, my smaller Asus HD monitor is a somewhat better picture, having more pixels.

For now, I'll keep dreaming of a 4K Asus, or Dell, or Samsung monitor ...
