IE6 streaming mpeg?

Recommended Posts

in ie5 when i clicked on a video that was mpeg/mpg Media Player would open and as it was downloading the part that was already downloaded would start playing. i found this helpful b/c i could essentially "preview" a movie file while it was being downloaded. if the file was somethign i already saw, bad quality or something i didn't want i would just kill the download and not waste my time or bandwidth.

it seems in ie6 when you click on an MPG it downloads and once the download is complete then media player opens and starts playing the file and i can't find a way to change that.

as a side note, in the latest media player how do you enable the option to drag the corner of the window and expand the size of the mpvie whil it's playing? i don't want to change it by a fixed "200%" but drag it to whatever size i want. that's why i like the old mplayer2.exe the best. no stupid skins and it does the job well. no fuss. no muss.

Unfortunately, you can't resize the video window to any size you want anymore. I loved that feature of Media Player 6.4 but it's gone now with Media player 8, I'm afraid.

anyone have a link for mplayer2? this is why i refuse to use the new windows media player. why would they remove the functionality? that makes no sense. it forces you to use another application.

Well, it's still there! Just look in your Program Files/Windows Media Player folder and there's "mplayer2" along with Media Player 8 and it still will allow you to resize your video window so just configure it to play MPEGs for you instead of MP8.

It's gotta be there! C:Program Files Windows Media Player. Just use Explorer or My Computer to get there. Or just click Start, Run and then paste inside: "C:Program FilesWindows Media Playermplayer2.exe" (without the quotes) and there it is.

Or just right-click your desktop and make a "New" shortcut on your desktop using the same above quote.

ender - it says that version is not supported by win2k and to wait for another version(which was later 7.1). thanx for trying though.

Brian - you were right about it being there. i did a search on my drive for mplayer and it didn't show up. i should've just looked in the WMP dir. lol.

Great, I'm glad you found it. Now just click View/Options and choose the Formats you want it to use and you can re-size your video windows to your heart's content!

yep. as soon as i found it i went into the options and associated all of the file types i want to it.

this still leaves the question of how to get the video to play as it's downloading instead fo waiting for it to end. heh. :ponder:
