Who wants to run OSX on their PC? (not a modded WinXP ver)

Recommended Posts

I am a huge fan of having Apple's OSX on my Athlon XP box, but up until now there has been a huge debate if apple should port their OS to an X86 platform.

Well, i was over at theinquirer.net this morning and found this jem: BSD at core of OS-X debate

skim down to the 5th paragraph and click the link

it takes you to apples open source page.

I know this is old news, but seriously i wouldnt mind setting up another partition and messing with this. From what i can tell, there is limited hardware support which is fine by me. im not looking to kick your asses in couterstrike from this, but just to mess around with some programs and do internet stuff.

heres the page to download the iso image

Darwin ISO

Darwin is the core of Mac OS X. All software built for Darwin should be able to run unmodified on Mac OS X. However, because Darwin by itself does not encompass all of the features of Mac OS X, software that depends on higher-level features of Mac OS X (such as the Cocoa and Carbon toolkits) will not run on a stand-alone Darwin system.

XFREE86 is Xwindows that most *nix OS can run.

and i defenatly do not want OSX on PC. and i can bet you will never see officaly ported. OSX is apple's baby and will never give it away.

WOW.... how secure... lmao: "Darwin currently includes the Apache web server, sendmail, and some other services. By default, there is only one account (root) with no password, as with most UNIX systems. You can create additional accounts using standard UNIX tools."

No password for ROOT by default is rather stupid. Kinda defeats the purpose of being based on BSD... ;) :D

Since Microsoft owns a good chunk of Apple, I bet they'd have something to say about that.

BTW, In my humble opinion, Linux is good for only one thing. Servers.

I know. No-one will be able to port OS X apart from Apple. Darwin is not OS X. Full stop.

MS doesnt own a good chunk of apple and even the bit they do own is non voting stock so they have no say in business decisions what so ever.
