Sir Topham Hatt
Hi all. I am in a spot of trouble. I have the following sounds: *.XM, *.MID and *.MDI files, which I need to convert to either WAVs or Mp3's. The *.MDI I am not sure if its a sound file, but its in the SOUND folder for a game. Does anyone know some software that will convert these formats? Cheers, Wizzer
nazgul
Hmm... that would really depend on the game itself. Lotta games use their own formats. What game IS it?
Sir Topham Hatt
Its called Rally Championship. The other option, is to run it on a 98 Machine (It dont like XP) and record the songs off of it using Mini Disk. Will try that tomorrow! :)
DocM
*.MDI and *.MID files are basically MIDI files. These are not digitized audio but tone & timing sequences like would be produced by keyboards, music editors & sample editors/players. A lot of programs play MIDI files, but if the sequence specifies sample files those may be needed too. Might also have to either put them in the same folder with the MIDI file(s) or point the editor/player to where they are. Example MIDI instruction: play B-flat for 3 seconds & use the French horn sample *.XM = eXtended Module, a propriatory format introduced in 1994 by Triton's Fast Tracker 2. It's essentially a MOD file, though various game companies will also put them in their own container files. You should be able to find editors or GPL share/free-ware programs that can read/convert them.
+Xinok Subscriber² Posted March 2, 2011 Subscriber² Share Posted March 2, 2011 I know foobar2000 will work. Create a new playlist, drag in the midi files, right click -> convert. You'll need to download LAME to convert to MP3. If you want, you can also get a good SoundFont to go with it.
