Windows XP regedit

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Whenever I open REGEDIT, it opens to where it was the last time I used it. I know there is a way to stop it from opening in this expanded view but I can't find the note I made that tells me how to do it.

Can anyone help me on this?

If You know it remembers the where you left, why don't you Just Collapse the Tree Before you leave, Regedit, that way the next time you open it up, its right where you left.

You'll need to be in the admin account, or yours must have admin privileges.

In regedit, navigate to [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAppletsRegedit] and look for the value LastKey. Double-click it and clear the string. Then right-click the Regedit key (in the lefthand pane) and select Permissions. Set Permissions to Deny for any/all users/group.

Be sure you only deny for the REGEDIT key.

Might want to make a backup copy first ;)
