windows blinds and winxp

Recommended Posts

is windows blinds stable in windows xp.

i used to use it for about a week with windows 98 before, and i had allot of problems.

some of the problems were, when staring games, the comp was slow as hell, and fps were lower than usally. other problem was when exiting games, sometimes the colors did not when back to normal. some strange color problems accured, oh and sometimes the resolution did not reset right.

so my question did windows blinds get better??

is it worth to get in windows xp, and will i or won't get any performace hits??

p.s for my pc specs look below. i had windows 98 on the same machine before.

I have a much older machine-I got mine when the first P3 coppermines came out(it's only 533mhz) and also have a dinosaur as far as graphics cards go(ATI Rage Fury) but I haven't noticed slower performance versus msstyles. I also tried WB with Win98 and the experience wasn't good. Someone in these forums mentioned killing the theme service in the administrative tools to help performance but I really couldn't tell the difference. WB relies on your graphics card for its hyperpaint feature with enables it to draw the skins faster. I think it is probably a little faster than msstyles and it loads skins faster that applying a new theme in luna. WB has improved drastically with 3.0 and 3.1 is way better still. Version 3.2 should be out soon and will be even better-it will skin some windows components that had been left out till now. So overall I would say give it a try-I don't play many games-just Q3 and Max Payne-but I haven't noticed any slowdown whatsoever. Besides you can unload WB with a click and reload just as easily after the fragfest!:D

I haven't noticed any stability issues but I didn't find it particularly fast either. Plus I really don't like many of the default skins it ships with. If you find a good skin though then it's well worth putting WB on.

one more question

when you start the computer, is the wb theme oready set ot it takes like 2 to 3 seconds to set it, like in win 98.

i remember the desktop showed normally, and then blinked and it was wb.

or does it work just like normal stylesxp
