JnCoKiLLa
Ok I got 3 computers in my house 2 with XP PRo and the other with ME. I wanna change the XP's ta NTFS-5. Will i Still be able to share files between all 3 still like before or should leave them alone?
Chaos
If you upgrade the 2 XP machines to ntfs the winme machine will not be able to see the ntfs drives, the xp machines can still see the fat32 winme drives though
neowin_hipster
When you network computers I thought Filesystems were irrelevant since you never directly access the disk anyways. You must go through software to get the data (ie the OS handles all of that and spits out that data)
commando677
Goalie_CA is correct and Chaos is wrong. By upgrading the XP computers to an NTFS file system won't effect the file sharing at all, as long as the permissions on the drives allow for the ME to use them. pinky
file systems are irrelevant. "If you upgrade the 2 XP machines to ntfs the winme machine will not be able to see the ntfs drives, the xp machines can still see the fat32 winme drives though " I'd test that theory again and correct yourself. The ME machine will be able to access NTFS SHARES just fine. The only difference is that you will be prompted for a user/pass pair to access the resources on the NT machines. Supply a valid user and you have access to the share so long as the permissions for that user allow you access.
mtgriffith
The only thing you have to worry about is the file permissions on the NTFS partitions (and of course the share permissions on the computers).
Chaos
I stand corrected, I thought that ntfs was not viewable by Win9x : (
