Nutnut
Ok im running Win XP on a 40 gig HD. I want to partition about 5 gig of this off so i can install win 98. The problem is when i ask partition magic 7 to split the HD to install 98 it wont let me put the 5 gig partition after my current drive letter. It trys to make the new partition drive C: and my current partition drive D:. If i go ahead and do this will it screw up my current install of win XP? Joseph Zollo
Alright, if you want to dual boot, you're going to need 3 partitions, one for 98, one for XP and one for temporary backup. 1. Use Partition Magic and make the partitions, then backup all your data to the E: partiton. 2. Format Partition C: and D: 3. Install Windows 98 on Partition C: (FAT32) 4. After Windows 98 is installed, install XP to partiton D: (FAT32 or NTFS) 5. Windows XP will automatically detect 98 and configure itself for dual boot. Now you've got a dual boot system! As far as I know there's no way to dual boot without Windows 98 being on the C: Partition. PowerQuest's "Boot Magic" might be able to do that. Silvorgold
odd, my 98 partition stayed when i installed xp lol :), i guess it chose the drive that had more free space... but i'm fine with it since i sometimes go back in 98 for some stuff thats not compatible with xp
