Steven
seriously check your WAV and VOL Levels and your speakers. if system restore doesn't help then, yeah check your volume.

gregor
i noticed why... first, i had four speakers. so i set the Quadraphonic speakers in Advanced Audio Properties. now, when i removed the two (default) speakers and connected the second ones in the 1st ones place i heard music only in directsound supported applications. so, now, when i move the Advanced Audio Properties to the Desktop speakers, the sound won't work. even in directsound supported applications (winamp). please tell me what to do... i searched every corner of sound properties dialogs!!! :'(
