Electrical Sockets

Recommended Posts

Righty then,

I use about 14 plugs up in my bedroom (UK). And I need them all.

My question is this, on a double socket on the wall, in one of the plugs I have the "Belkin 8-way Power Surge Protection" unit, would it be safe/fine to add another one of these to the second socket on the wall..?

I mean, at the moment I have 2 double sockets on my wall (either side of the room), and in the 2nd overall socket (other side of room) I have a simple 6-way socket adaptor, and everything seems fine.

I just want to know what's safe here and what's not. I wish to purchase another "Belkin 8-way Power Surge Protection" for my equipment.

Thanks in advance :rambo:

you would have to find out how many amps each of these sockets gives and then break your equipment up according to the amps they need.

Dazzla

Cool, I just hope it's safe :rambo:

Abysal

How would I do that..? I mean, I know nothing about electronics. Is there anyway to increase the bandwidth (you know what I mean, power wise...as I say - I don't have a clue).

Find out the amprage og the line running to your room, you can check it on the breaker in your basement or whereever it is. I think most are like 20 amps which should be fine for like 2 computers... I'm not an expert on this either... But I know as long as you don't have your air conditioner on the same line you should be cool.

hmmm, I have 2 computers on the Belkin socket, and on my other 6-way adaptor, I have a 3rd computer.

Mind you I have a lot more things connected, such as:

- Switch

- Cable Modem

- Scanner

- Printer

- Cambridge Sound System

- Wireless Headphones

- etc.

LOL Bandwidth. :D

I think if it works on one then you can put the same load on the other. Try to ballance it though, the monitor will probably suck up the most power so put it on the opposite power board than the tower (or something similar).

EDIT: Put the sound system on a different power board to the monitor.

OK. If you have a dual ring round your room you should have a total of 30A avalible, otherwise 20A as above.

If you are using 8 way adapters, make sure you don't take more that 13A from the adapter in total, although if everything is correctly fused then you should be relatively safe. Just don't replace any fuses with higher rated ones.
