Zutroy
Due to a few failed installs of 2000 and XP (argh, long story), I know find myself with an "OS Selection Menu" on bootup. It gives me 30 seconds to select between Win2000 (listed twice...d'oh) and Windows XP. Does anyone know how I can either edit the options on this screen to reduce the timeout from 30 seconds to 0, and/or completely eliminate this screen all together? Zutroy
msconfig doesn't exist in Win2000 (or at least not in my install). Thanks ashtray13 ... I should have known it was in boot.ini. Will try when I get home from work.
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted February 18, 2002 Veteran Share Posted February 18, 2002 it's actually easier than boot.ini editing. Hit WINKEY + Break (brings up the system properties) I'm in XP, so I go to the advanced tab. Then click settings under startup and recovery. It's all there. You can also click edit to edit the boot.ini by hand (to get rid of the 2nd win2k entry). Hope this helps!
Zutroy
Ah ha, I've foiled you again - don't have a WinKey on my keyboard. I'm old-school 101-key keyboard =)

From Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> System --> Advanced tab and select the Startup and Recovery Options. You should be able to disable the banner option, but I would just change the time to something like 2 seconds, because this feature is useful if you need to get into the console mode or safe mode or some other variation or mode. Yeah, I know you can right click on the My Computer icon to get to the System properties. :] Of course, editing the boot.ini file is probably just as easy.
