thetombraider
I'm in a dual-boot situation right now, which will prolly make some difference... Anyway, I had to replace explorer in Windows 98 (I have 98 and XP). So I booted into DOS and gawsh-darnit I accidentally did the command: 'Copy C:windows' And I didn't mean to! I meant to do: 'copy C:windowsdesktopexplorer.exe' Hehe. I hit the Enter key too soon... anyway, now, when I boot into Windows 98, I have no recognised hardware, my display is at like 8 colours or whatever, and nothing is missing from the Windows directory... it's weird. If I could, I would just re-install Windows 98, but you can't do that cuz it will overwrite Windows XP's something. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but that, I do believe, is the reason you install 98 first in a dual-boot, and installing it again would just like... worsen the problem.) I am able to boot into Windows XP with no problems, thankfully, but Windows 98 isn't liking me. So, I didn't even get the modified explorer.exe I wanted. Thanks, thetombraider

mtgriffith
It should have just copied (not moved) all of the files (not the subfolders) in the Windows directory to the root. It would be a nasty mess to clean up but I don't think it would ruin anything.
thetombraider
Yeah, it only moved them, but caused a hell of a lot of damage. Should I try to just remve them from the C: directory? Can't hurt. And r u sure that Windows 98 won't overwrite XP's boot.ini so that then I can't boot into XP? (That's the rumour anyway).
Xcalibur
its probably cause your computer is too full to boot up windows. just delete all the files that you copied.. but make sure you dont delete antything you arent supposed to delete. mtgriffith
I almost did it too damnit haha until I read on. So what exactly does that command do? deltree deletes a directory and all the files and directories under it. /y suppresses the the yes or no prompt *.* means get everything!
