... pondering

Recommended Posts

i thought that it was ok to talk about warez but not to post them. if this is the case why are threads deleted where people want to know about warez. 96% of the users here prolly use warez so it is not like they are not allowed here. i mean, if a newbie posts a thread asking where the keygen is, that should be fine unless the link is not posted. maybe thru pm or e-mail.

i have never posted warez or plan to in the future, but if a keygen for windows xp is going to be posted on the front page why can it not be discussed in this forum?

i think that the stance of the forum on warez is too harsh. i agree, this is a discussion forum, not a warez-posting forum. but, i read a thread by a mod that said that discussion about warez is ok, but why are they constantly erased and posters warned? if that is the case, then why even say that discussion for them is ok?

i dont want to start a "warez-uprising" but i just want to know why. i hope that no spiteful posts will come in my direction for wondering this. i just want to know why. i think that any answers to me should be here for the entire forum to see.

sincerely,

tox

Your question is legitimate, however...

I personally see a major difference between an attempt to discuss issues on the topic of warez/illegal software, and a post that's simply asking where to find it (i.e. "git me de link"). The latter is only asking other members to step over forum rules, so I'd have little problem with such posts getting the ax.

If you really want to chat about the underground scene, neowin isn't the spot to be doing it. Chatting about keygens, cracks, time-limit removers, serials, warez, etc. don't work here. Try looking for other boards to discuss that section of computer technology.

I hope that made sense. as to your question I have no idea. slip-up maybe? new admin? paranoia? I don't think they want a lawsuit slapped against them like ISOnews had with sega, so they are trying to not let things get out of hand, or linger for too long? maybe someone else who isn't so tired can answer this better.

The problem is that people are using the board to spread cracks, keygens or warez. Not directly (by posting links), but by posting their email address so it can be sent. The second reason is that the latest forum posts show up on the main page where alot of people see them, we don't want any of these people to be turned off the site if they see these kinds of topics.

erm, Neowin gets the heat for illegal links and cracks.. and when we get heat we also respond to the person that caused the "problem"

We CAN discuss a fact but thats not to say we will also offer the means to sail past Microsofts counter piracy measures. By reporting that XP WPA was defeated we were simply informing this fact as WPA has been in the news since it was first announced.

The rules have clearly stated that we do not tolerate warez (links) or cracks so we expecty everyone to abide by it.

People who dont will be banned from posting in the future because those people pose a threat to Neowins very existence. (ie: Do you think MS liked seeing idiots post links to the keygen on a supposedly non warez news site) hmm no I dont think so.

I mean I COULD allow it, but what you will be seeing is Neowin being closed within a very short time after the moderation was dropped off the site.
