markass
When will the Windows Longhorn Beta Program be starting. Just curious that's all.
Eldoen
Microsoft has said publically that the Beta for Longhorn would start after the Release of SP1 for XP. Which is expected 3rd or 4th quarter this year. El.

xdude6
http://betabuzz.netfirms.com/betabuzzlongh...rn%20review.htm - I wrote that review with screenshots and everything! I do not mean to spam it, just want to share the review!
Eldoen
xdude, You may want to update that review.;) We now know that Storage + (yukon SQL File System) will be in Longhorn for example. That it will be released in late 2003 or early 2004. There are additonal features that are possible. But the biggest besides that is that the .net will be fully embedded into the OS. Not as far as it will in Blackcomb. but that is another story;) El
Silvorgold
i wonder why so many products codenames are named after places in canada...longhorn, whistler.....yukon..brrr
Eldoen
who knows. Whistler and Blackcomb are 2 mountains in Canda I believe: Longhorn is a ski lodge on the Whistler Mountain if I remember right. A while back it was City names that were a big code name Chicago, Cairo, to name a couple.:) El
Jaxbulls
I think I heard these mountains are in the resort that is just in Canada and that the resort is fairly close to Redmond - so it is visited often by Microsoft employees.
fizik2
yea... Windows 95 was Chicago, Windows 98 was Memphis (where i live :D ), Windows 98 SE was Nashville. Windows 2000 was Cairo.. I don't remember WinME's codename... I still found traces of the codename of Windows 98 in the Windows ME registry... Weird...
neowin_hipster
Whistler and Blackcomb are 2 mountains in Canda I believe: Longhorn is a ski lodge on the Whistler Mountain if I remember right. You're right. Whistler is an awesome place about 2hrs away from downtown Vancouver. I love going up there. It's so beautiful even in the summer. There is huge mountain biking up there also. If you know your geography, it means the execs in Redmond can drive up to Whistler and spend the day there and drive back down. Seattle is about 2hrs south of border. Whistler is bloody expensive though it is rated #1 in the world.
markass
Go figure. Microsoft's presence probably makes it the most expensive place to live. What do you all think about my little theory.
MulletRobZ
My PC will probably be too crappy to run Longhorn, if those recommended requirements I thought are correct! Here's my prediction for Longhorn's requirements: Pentium II @ 400 MHz (600 MHz Pentium III recommended) 128 MB RAM (256 MB recommended) At least 3 GB of hard drive space! 16 MB Video Card If that's true, then I'll have to wait until I build myself a laptop two years down the road! By then, I'd want to have it ready for Blackcomb if I still can't get Linux to do all the tasks that Windows can do! :)
Kusanagi
...Windows 2000 was Cairo.. I don't remember WinME's codename... WinME's codename was plain and simple: Millennium :) and I think Win95 OSR2 was called Nashville, not Win98SE (maybe they just used to call nashville any second release of their old 9x?)
