Matrox Parhelia

Is Matrox actually going to be releasing a card that will compete with nVIDIA's? Wow, this is a surprise, was expecting them to be releasing only business cards from now on.

My next card may actually be a Matrox then, back to what I had when I originally got my PC in '95. The display of the old Millennium is still far better than my GF2 in Windows, much crisper and easier to look at.

From http://www.matroxusers.com

"1. It is very real.

2. Yes, I said it is real. Not fake.

3. It is fast. It will have a new memory design, different from all current video cards. Memory speed will be faster than the current fastest (a GeForce4). Faster by a huge margin of victory (~19GB/s bandwidth).

4. It is fast. It will be an all new chip. It will not be 256 bit and will not be 128 bit. Expect clock speeds around 300 Mhz. Also expect varied product offerings from this core after the initial products are released.

5. It is 3D feature filled. Expect it to have a fully programmable Transform and Lighting. Displacement mapping is sure to be featured along with shaders. It will have the most powerful Transform and Lighting unit available"

I use Matrox cards almost exclusively at work but I know that they could be a little beefier. Who do you think will pick up the NVIDIA Quadro line now that Elsa has declared bankruptcy? I would like to see a Matrox card that is as good as an Elsa Synergy for the AutoCAD technicians or the Gloria for the modelers.
