aqua icons and photshop help!

Question

I now know how to make aqua text and buttons using photoshop (see avatar).

But when I try to do the same effect using bitmaps and the objects on it , it's don't look quite right.

Should I use the same kind of technque used in the text effect to make any other icon or graphic aqua?

let's assume that the 'bitmap' that you're referring to is an object in a photo... eg. plane with clouds around it. You want to 'aqua'fy just the plane and get rid of the clouds. here's how you do it;

1. create a new file with transparent bg

2. on a new layer, paste the image of the plane in clouds on it and name that layer PLANE

3. create a new layer and start painting on it the shape of the plane and name that new layer AQUA

4. you can also use the lasso tool or whatever you're comfortable with to select the shape of the plane to replace step 3 above. then fill it with your foreground color.

5. Click PRESERVE TRANSPARENCY for that AQUA layer.

6. CTRL-Click AQUA layer to select the shape of the plane

7. go to PLANE layer, inverse selection, and delete out the clouds leaving the plane intact. Deselect

8. go back to AQUA layer and do your Aqua stuff

9. then apply either MULTIPLY, OVERLAY or SOFT LIGHT to that AQUA layer.

10. merge it with the PLANE layer and there you go, you've got an 'aqua'fied plane.
