$4.95 a month hosting - too good to be true?

Question

whoa. i just found an amazing deal on webhosting. this site Ehostpros.com is offering $4.95 a month web hosting including cgi, php, ssi and unlimited email accounts. check this list out here:

http://ehostpros.com/hosting/hosting.htm

i've been looking at webhosts for a very long time and noticed that they were all $10 a month or more...this one's only 5 bucks a month, which sounds too good to be true. has anyone heard bad reviews about this company or can anyone find any catches? if not, then i'm definitely signing up now!

only 100mb storage, but still that's not bad for 5 bucks a month.

and if you want more, you can get the 250mb hosting plan for only 8 bucks a month. geez, this is awesome.

you got to ask yourself what would they be like for support, im guessing not great, how fast is it going to be. if you need something doing, will they do it? the only host i can recommend is www.hosttyme.com may be biased but tyme is great, gets everythiung done quickly for us, and its very cheap

Well as anybody knows 1 gb bandwidth cannot cost $1! They give 5 gb bandwidth for 5/mo! If hosting company doesnt charge $2 or more for 1 gb of bandwidth then its probably not good quality company!

i take it you are a customer....

i looked up their site. i see they offer multiple domain hosting. does each domain have their own home directories, or do they all point to the same content?

stupid comcast @home had to cap my uploads to 20kb/sec. back in the day, when i could send 100kb/sec i had my own webserver, and it worked pretty darn well too! apache running on windows xp..ah that was sweet.

hi, neowin uses hosttyme, i plan to. Each domain has its own directory with cgi-bin etc (including sub-domains). There are logs for each domain and all the standard fetures. Bandwidth is fast (NOC is connected by dual OC3) servers are fast and support is great. Im sure if you email tyme she will respond quickly

I'm using nirmani.net

800mb/10gb/10domain/16db custom plan for 19.99 month

great service and you can probably even get a test account to see their speed for yourself. I've been quite impressed.

and if you're worried about them overloading, here's the uptime stats

up 7 days, 3:00, 1 user, load average: 0.05, 0.10, 0.14

either good speed or low requirments of the sites on this server. I'm in here with about 30-40 other sites (lots of subdomains though...). Couldn't give you one reason not to use them...So, get on board with me :D

i talked to my friend who first told me about the site...here's what he said:

I know that the unlimited space is true, but who knows about the speeds. they have a 99% uptime guarantee, which is pretty bad ass... so who knows.

speeds? i know the speeds are fast, cause they have links to sample sites here.

what i think i might do is just check if they'll allow me to sign up for a monthly plan and cancel anytime. if they do, then i'll just sign up, check their service, and if i dont like it i'll quit. 5 bucks isn't that much anyways.

IMO I like hosting with U.S.-based webhost. also hosts with real phone numbers, ansewered by real people.

dealing with foreign, non-US hosts can be a pain, too. particulary the language barrier. plus if your web audience has to travel to servers outside the US, they may encounter more traffic, or more downtime.

BEWARE. there are some hosts that are resellers of resellers of resellers. ultimately, if you need support, and you need to email or call them, you won't hear from them right away.

if the hosting company is not the owner of the NOC, or the servers, then you best be wary.

the most important factor is customer service, and that a live person answers the phone and email. that they will work with you, should you need tech support, software installation, etc.

Sonic.
