well i did my site so i have a nav menu to the left..

when they click on one theres a bar at the top that changes

on the left i would have .. Filez and top would change to Appz .. Games ... blabla....... left would be news and on click would be the months archives... hehe so i like a coo mix !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

people read pages from upper left, and then in a sort of z to the bottom right.

so non-computer people look at the top or left first.

but it doesn't really matter, i wouldn't put it on the right really though.

Both top and left can work.

If you have a lot of sections (links) go with left. It will look the cleanest.

If you have only a few ( < 7 links ) just go with top ONLY if it makes some sort of sense. =P

Very well-said. Though you may want to make an elitist website (hehe) it is always best to comfor the commoner. Top and left are your best bets.

on the top, but avoid muliple lines, that's just confoosin.

if you need to avoid that, put it on the left, but the top allows for better use of screen space and such....

Good point (Shoulda thought of that myself)...keep the top-bar at one line. If it needs to go beyond one line, do left navigation.
