Doggabyte = a bunch of GB's

Recommended Posts

I found this in one of my math books. It shocked me just how small a GB is in comparision to what is out there.

gigabyte = 1GB (one)

terabyte = 1,000GB (thousand)

petabyte = 1,000,000GB (million)

exabyte = 1,000,000,000GB (billion)

zettabyte= 1,000,000,000,000GB (trillion)

yottabyte= 1,000,000,000,000,000GB (quadrillion)

nonabyte= 1,000,000,000,000,000,000GB (quintillion)

doggabyte=1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000GB (sextillion)

Then I used a download calculator to see how long it would take to download 1 DB sized file on gigabit ethernet. And it came out taking 99,420,539,259,259,260 days, or 272,385,039,066,463 years. Thats Gbit ethernet.

Also, it would take 4,000,000,000,000,000,000 250GB hard drives to make just 1DB

Does anyone know anything bigger?

Cool, i can imagine in the future maybe my grandsons saying "Hey, i need a 80doggabyte hd" lol jk DAMn thats alot.. none of us will even be alive by the time they come with petabyte/exebyte hd's

I've looked into this in the past extensively and failed to find anything larger than a Doggabyte... Have you looked at Kibibytes, Mebibytes, Gibibytes, etc yet?

when we say Gigabyte... we think of 1000MB.. but it *should* be pronounced Gibibyte. a real Gigabyte is 1024 Mibibytes.

kibibyte = 1000 bytes

mibibyte = 1000 kb

or do i have this backwards... either way we're all technically wrong :p

that's insane .. what the hell would you store on a HD like that if there were one available :l

Considering games used to take only one floppy and now they take multipale cds I can see why you might need one in the future.

You have it backwards, I think. A gigabyte is 1000 megabytes, which is 1000 kilobytes, which is 1000 bytes. A kibibyte is 1024 bytes, or what we commonly refer to as a kilobyte.

This is how hard drive makers always win the "1 GB = 1000 MB" argument, because they're technically correct...

so ur saying that i have one doggabyte of porn

hmm interesting :shifty:

no, i think what you mean to say is that you have one terabyte of dog porn.

we forgive you

What about a nibble ? (opposite direction :p)

unfortunately, four bits strung together is not equally as impressive as a doggabyte.

And with the new terminology that's been on the rise in the past few years, should we start pronouncing it "doggibibyte" or "diggibibyte".

hmm, perhaps just 'kibbles and bytes"

To me, a gigabyte = 1024 megabytes. Who truly knows overall though. Windows calculates it as 1 gigabyte = 1024 megabytes but I'm not sure that is even the true "correct" equality. Linux, I believe, equates it as 1000 mb = 1 gb. Either way, it's always 1024 mb = 1 gb for me :)
