Hey,

I'd like to know how many of you have been reallly looking forward to a game because of all the hype, bought said game, and played it only to find out that it's junk.

Some games of note would be Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor, Wolfenstein (very short single player/basically the same ole stuff), C&C Renegade (decent multiplayer). etc

Seems to me that beating the console gamers in graphics is more important than a decent game.

Or maybe is it the hype of the game puts us all in the frame of mind to expect an insanely perfect game?

Like to know what you all think on this subject.

i wouldn' say content is at all time low. i'd say we'r more spoiled.

look at older games. you could play most of 'em w/ 1 or 2 buttons and gameplay was very simple.

maybe gfx play more important role today, but i don't think content is at all time low.

Games these days all seem to be the same, at the end of every level there is a bad guy kill him and move on then the next level is the same thing. It all seems so repetitive. Max Payne was one of those games that was amazing, great story line and great visual effects one of my all time favourites. Can't wait for the movie.

HEY !! I like Flashpoint. The graphics are ok... especailly when you consider how enormous the worlds are in which you can move about. I think its a very realistic game. multiplayer.. its alot of fun ;)

Oh and so im on topic here... i just wanted to say that i think games place too much emphasis these days on pretty visuals and not enough on playability.

black and white was a really really big dissapointment.

5 crummy levels which were pretty but just were not interesting at all.

the idea of creatures would have been amazing if it was pulled off properly but it was really lame and all they do is sit down and eat people and training them is like pulling teeth.

Project IGI was awful as well with it being buggy in places and graphics worse than delta force(the original) and a lame selection of weapons. It was so badly made they used all the buildings in each of the levels but changed the furniture around!

I would have to disagree, I have many new games that I have enjoyed playing: Max PAyne, Sacrifice, UT, RTCW, D2. Some old games that have been and still are really good: Driver, NOLF, Half-Life, The sims, SoF.

I'd have to say as a whole the single players games (and the single player modes) are going down hill. I mean there is such an emphasis on multiplayer games that there really isn't an incentive to make involving story lines and gameplay. It also seems like we are seeing the same thing over and over again, and not anything really new or evolutionary.

The last game I bought was Unreal Tournament, which was ok, nothing really spectacular. But it had a great multiplayer mode, or should I say the people that played it made it fun and addictive. I haven't played UT in forever, however I play the Tactical Ops mod more than I probably should. In that I find something somewhat funny, the mod is better than the original game (at least IMO).

I also think we expect alot more realism in games these days, and thus can be let down pretty fast if a game fails to deliver on even one point. Nostalgia plays a part too.

I agree. Nowadays we see more quality(esp in the gfx) but less quantity(the overall amount of the game itself).

Max payne, even though it was not very long, i think it was one of the most awesome games i've ever played, i'm eagerly waiting for anything max-payne related.

At first i thought Black & White was cool, even though i did not complete the whole game, but not after all the feedback from people. I liked the whole concept of the game, i think it was the firstof it's kind and the gfx were not bad too.

RTCW..this was one game which kind of got me into itself in between the game..but it got a bitless interesting towards the end. the last boss was just too easy to beat, but the story i think was...so so.

Right now i'm playing JK2 and waiting for the final version of SOF2 to be released.

I never played much of unreal..but i played alot of quake3arena..which is still an awesoe game to date. And i am not a fan of any strategy games, so i'm not gonna rant on them :D

I liked Red Faction, too bad the 2nd version is PS2 only :( It was just too short, that is all.

- StarCraft

- Outlive

- Mech Commander 2

- Empire Earth

One big disappointment I had in a game was Half-Life. I downloaded the demo and loved it for the urban combat against US Special Forces, when I bought the game the level from the demo that I loved so much wasn't even in the game and it was all those dumb-assed aliens. What happened to those marines with the incredible AI?! Didn't see much of them.

Half-Life and Opposing Force both had horrible endings.

i dont know if i necessarily agree with that. there are two aspects to that. the single player of games seems to being going downward. in such games as renegade and jedi outcast, the AI is pretty bad. in renegade, you stand in front of people and dont get shot at, but when you walk really far back, they seem to be able to "snipe" you from really far.. makes no sense.

i do think that the multiplayer has gotten a lot better. games like counterstrike, jedi outcast and renegade even have made multiplayer playing very fun. i enjoy playing multiplayer more now then ever before, so thats what i do think is better about games.

im happy i didnt pay for it

black and white had some of the best AI i have ever player with, but the game was hard to navigate and it got pretty boring after a while, but it did set the standard for AI.
