If you are getting a game console go with the PS2 or GameCube, possibly a Dreamcast if it is really cheap. XBox seems destined to die in my opinion, and it does not look like many developers are going to flock to it or stick with it. I like the PC out of all my choices, but GameCube and PS2 are great, too.

Ok, you're looking for trouble here :D

But my vote goes to GameCube. It's got some really good games now, and a LOT of good ones coming in the future.

I'd also put my 2nd vote on PS2 seeing as it has quite a large library of good titles, but I'd wait to buy it until after E3, Sony's expected to drop the price of PS2 (and gamecube might match it in such a case)

As for xBox, I don't even want to go there... Horrible games except for like 2 of them. Extra cost for dvd playback. Horrible controllers. Poor quality construction (you don't know how many people come back to my store with overheated xboxes...). It's more expensive as well. I've found more people are coming back to my store (gamestop/babbages) as happy ps2 or gamecube customers than xbox customers.

id say stay with the PC cuz in my opinion things are gonna get a whole like schweeter as time progresses...i mean technology wise, the computer will own ass in the next generation of gaming. unless some supermega console of doom comes out, then were all screwed. :D

go with kick ass gamecube, its 100 less than all the others plus nintendo has solid games like zelda, mario, etc.

you know they wont abandon their audience, COUGHSEGACOUGH

When my girlfriend bought a PS2 a a couple months ago, it was $299.99 with one controller. A memory card was a biatch to find, but we finally got one a couple weeks ago. If anyone's having trouble finding one, I'd suggest checking Software, Etc. if there's one near you. It was the only place within 50 miles of here that wasn't sold out it seems.

I've just had to make the exact same decision, heres my thoughts:

Aim: A console that looked good, with classic games, emphasis on 'in the room' multiplayer. My PC is sh*te hot for networked games, so ethernet/broadband access isn't a requirement.

Contenders: Playstation2,XBox,GameCube.

Playstation 2

----------------

Pros: Established market, the really memorable games are starting to come out now. It plays DVDs, Audio CDs (neither here nor there tbh). You can play Ps1 games, use PS1 pads etc

Cons: Been out a considerable time now. Graphics arent cutting edge. Comparatively long loading times.

X-Box

-------

Pros: Looks impressive as hell. Seems to have attracted developers. Nicely priced hardware now. It has the weight (and influence) of MS behind it.

Cons: Games expensive. Need dvd thing to actually play them (ie:not out of the box. Rumoured to be big and noisey.

GameCube

--------------

Pros: Half size dvd disks meaning incredably fast loading times (comparatively). Classic nintendo in-house games. Classic multiplayer action. Incredably small console. Gameboy Advance can be used as a controller, some games utilise the screen.

Cons: Doesnt play dvds/audio cds due to small disc. Annoying 'childish' looking graphics as seen in most n64 games.

Chunky external PSU.

I think thats most of it, but I'm totally hungover so forgive mistakes ;)

Conslusion: My first attempt at a decision was to wait for the GC, as it will give me the classic multiplayer action that I'm after. I spent hundreds of brilliant hours playing goldeneye, mariokart etc on my n64, and expect more of the same. Its cheap, the console is only ?160, the cheapest of them all. Also the fact that it doesnt play dvd's shows exactly how the designers were thinking. The Gamecube is a gaming machine, and nothing else. The idea of using GBAs was attractive aswell, but could be a flop.

Then I looked at the list of games, and started to remember how dam childish 75% of the n64 games were (I am 22yrs old).

So I decided to get the ps2. Established market, a long list of very good games, and a budget range already!

I'm dam impressed with it, the graphics sure dont match my Gf3, but the gameplay is stunning, GTA3 f*cking rocks:))

The DVD playback doesnt compaire to my realmagic hollywood Mpeg card, but I doubt much does. Its really annoying in that it INSISTS on stretching 16:9 dvds to full screen, twatting up the aspect ratio. You have to stop the dvd, go into the menu, change the option, and start it again. Everytime..

Then a few days later, I found out the X-Box is being dropped to a very resonable price. People keep saying 'its just a pc in a box'. So? Its a console, that plays games. Whether its a pc or a sodding mac inside is irrelevent.

Basically I didnt want to take the risk of going with a new console. I like knowing the Ps2 is an established success, and support/games will keep on coming.

I'm gonna go throw up a few times now. God dam double redbull+vodka.:ss

I said it in another forum, but I'll say it again. Microsoft has big plans for hardware and software to be used at home. Thus XBox cannot fail, because it will screw everyones opinions about MS hardware overall (even though MS makes the best mouse, joystick and keyboard in the world) Therefore MS will put all its million and dare I say billions of raw $$$$$$$$$$$$ into it, and will keep it alive and good-looking for years to come, at all costs and by all means necessory. There is a game show coming, the real sweetness (after Halo and Oddworld) are to be announced there

I have XBox and absolutely love it!:rambo:

I have an XBOX i love it, ive played PS2 cuz a couple of my friends have iot but i love my xbox more the hard drive kicks ass cuz of no memory cards. the controllers r very easy 2 use once u get used 2 them. i didnt midn paying the extra money for a dvd remote for it. The games r great much better quality cuz there is much better graphiocs cards inside, there more memory. the games i have are Halo of course, wreckless, Genma Onimusha - which is much better then the ps2 version cuz it has alot of extra gameplay. and Dead or alive 3, those chicks r realy hot!! much hoter then my girlfriend shush dotn tell her i sayed that!!!!
