0 noxcuse Posted November 16, 2004 Share Posted November 16, 2004 I think: .tar -> archive format .zip -> compressed format that's why people often use : <filename>.tar.gz/bz/zip => compressed the archiver. After that, the tar file is usually compress'd, gzip' or bzip'd. Zipping the tar file saves space but that makes two extraction: the zip then the tar to get the actual files.
