DivX won't install!

Question

I formatted my PC not too long ago, put all of my videos and everything back on my hard drive...and when I tried to watch a .avi video today, I realized I hadn't reinstalled DivX. I went to their site, downloaded the installer, and everytime I try to run it, an error comes up and says "DivXyaddayadda.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I don't know what to do! This occurs every single time I try to run it. I've deleted, downloaded, and tried to run it again and the same thing happens. Help!

Dont use the official divx, search google for codec packs and use one of those instead. I find they work far better.

No they don't. That's the stupidest thing I have ever heard. a codec pack working better then the decoders themselves? In other words, throw enough decoders in a backet and hope directshow can pick the right one to use, correct? Sounds like someone needs a lesson on dshow and the rules at neowin too.

Sounds like the problem was either you still have the file in your temp internet files, so it's not downloading correctly or you are using a download manager that is corrupting the download.

Had the same problem, Couldn't get it to work.

Ended up installing the divx codec from my

UT2004 DVD addition CD. works now.

Still kicking myself , it was a corrupted download.

Could be a corrupted download, I never did clear the temp files and then try re-downloading  forgot ALL about that.

Download Manager...just the one that comes with Firefox. I don't think it's ever messed anything I've downloaded before up, but...I'll clear the temp and check.

Okay, I just cleared the temp, downloaded the installer again, ran it, and....SAME THING!

The pack thing I downloaded seems to be working just fine, so I guess I can't complain too much. I didn't use the DivX Player, anyway...so I'm really not missing anything.

Ah well, thanks anyway.

Don't use DivX period IMO.

Use ffdshow to watch your movies and XviD to encode (Y)

*edit* stay far away from codec packs! uninstall them now!
