I quit playing at about the middle of January of this year, I'm an original classic player, after 8 years of wow I am just completely out of it.

I've yet to find a game to replace it, and don't fully expect to until maybe Titan comes out....nothing comes close to the original game I played years ago, it has changed for the worse in my opinion and is dull and old to me.

I'm the same, raided 40 mans in Vanilla, and can't bring myself to do anything once logged in. Nothing is the same and I get bored quickly with anything that I try

Has anyone completed 'To Be A Master' in half hill market? The quest where you have to get 600 in each of the 'Way of the...'

I'm working through it but the sheer amount of materials it requires it taking me weeks... i'm just wondering if you get anything afterwards worth doing it for?

I read somewhere you can start growing ore and portals and other stuff in the farm, i haven't done this yet so i'm wondering if this comes after to be a master?

i hope that during blizzcon they announce that the game is going free to play with micro transactions selling mounts and pets to pay for the game. I loved playing the game but after cataclysm came out and the fact that the game had become very easy for our guild to get through the new content very quickly it just was not worth paying for anymore.

They have said (very recently) that the game is not going F2P any time soon. No reason to make it that way.

If the game went F2P that would be awesome.. however I don't see that happening.  I have been a subscriber for over 5 years now.  I play every now and again, however I do feel as though I have wasted a lot of money by not playing.   I quit for a bit after Cata came out (played through a fair bit of TBC and most of WOTLK) quit during cata, played during MOP and got to the point I was ready to do 510+ iLevel raids but no one ever pugged them.. so I ended up quitting again.

There is just nothing to drive me to play anymore.. and am considering cancelling my account at this point.

I had played the game from Beta up through the first content patch for Cataclysm and our guild had completed all of the game content (all the raids and whatnot) and most of the guild just stopped playing because it was too easy and they didnt want to waste their money anymore, we all still love the game just dont want to pay for it if they are not going to play. Most of the guild moved on to others games sadly i am the only one playing Guild Wars 2 ( I do not feel guilty when i do not play for a week)

Just do LFR and don't worry about the extra ~30-40 ilvls.

Also, with SoO releasing tomorrow and it being the last content patch for MoP, there will be plenty of pugging of the raids once they are on farm for everyone. Plus Ordos (the Legendary cloak exclusive outdoor raid boss) drops 7 Warforged level items per-spec (6 armor slots and a neck) himself, so thats a ton of gear to go for without the real need to PUG.

I did LFR.. but I no longer was getting anything good.. my gear was pretty much as good as it could get from LFR.. was pointless to spend time doing them.

I play to progress.. and to become better.. not just kill time.

Sounds like you guys are disappointed by Cataclysm.  I don't blame you, it wasn't that great of an expansion.  MoP is much better though and the raids are harder.

No you're right about that, I stopped LFR a long while ago. Started gear alts and leveling other characters. The valor gear was much better anyway - 522 vs 502. But thats no longer a concern with 496s that upgrade to 535s on the Timeless Isle plus the stuff I mentioned above.

a vast majority of that monthly fee cash goes to server maintenance and old data storage, not their pockets (surprisingly).

I highly doubt the servers cost anywhere near 'a vast majority' of the mountain of money they make off wow every month. Maybe a decent sized chunk, but nowhere remotely near most of it.

Regardless of percentage (which you can look up in their filings if its really a big deal), they would be losing more money than it would be worth if they went F2P. Even at $35m a month income (which is less than half of their current subscriber income), there is no chance they would make that much in microtransactions.

Should be easier for groups to bring in extra people and pug with Flex Raiding being added.

Not really. You can't flex a 10 man to a flex. Have to start a new raid. Plus Flex is lower ilvl than Normal.

While I've seen the writing on the wall for years now, it still saddens me to see the game slump so much. They never really recovered from their strategy change in Wrath.

The game itself isn't really 'slumping'. Peoples tastes have changed, people have grown up, etc. Its hard to bring in new gamers to WoW - thats the main problem.

The postmortem of Blizzard's decisions has been had many times here so I probably won't go over it too much more. People's tastes have changes, sure, but I believe this change has a direct correlation with society in general becoming too consumer oriented and wanting instant gratification. What I find interesting in this slump in subscriptions is it almost signifies that society actually does realize rampant consumerism and instant gratification really does decay the sport of the game and, symmetrically, I believe society secretly knows that these superficial desires are ultimately futile and it's still the challenge of it all that can keep us interested. Well, I would like to think society knows this but, who really knows themselves as well as they should?

Oh god. This is a game. Its not a statement on society. People are still playing games. Nearly 8 million people still play WoW. Just not as many as once did. Thats all. Relax.

I beg to differ. I don't think it's mere coincidence that Wrath brought heavy consumerist ideals and the games subscriptions flourished then to only see what the game became - a demoralizing community. This was acknowledged as a growing problem and a slight reversal was taken in Cataclysm. It wasn't enough and the damage is done. Now, the passion is gone (my opinion).

In my opinion.. they tried to cater to the 12 year olds.  I miss when having good gear, being able to buy things off the AH without having to worry about gold, and having a title made you something special.

I miss TBC days when progression existed.. and you had to work hard for what you had.. nothing was just given to you.

I hate to do this, but care to list a few that were created during Wrath and have since been removed?
