The only thing you can really try is Compatibility Mode, but even this has a slim chance of working. I have yet to find a game where this actually proves of use:S

WinXp, runs dos in its own cmd window. It does not natively support DOS. You could try running it in a Virtual Machine however. I have Virtual PC running a copy of Win98 so i can play old games and stuff

that compatibility mode helped me with only one game so far.

in rally championship, the menu was acticting weird, really weird.

but in windows 98 compatibility mode it worked normally. no problems at all.

timdorr, out of interest which duke are you having trouble running in XP?

If it's Duke3D, I've had that working with sound on XP.

Dunno about any of the others though.

yeah, duke 3d (although, i do long for a good ol' game of duke 2 :D ), but it usally just shows the 1st splash screen and that's it...

My copy's in a storage room in my friend's townhouse in Atlanta until August, so this isn't a pressing issue :D But, I'd love ot know what you did to make the damn thing run ;)

Well I had to use some program to patch the Duke3D exe.

The same as the ones needed for Doom and the like.

I think it somes with the demo of SoundFX 2000.

http://www.softsystem.co.uk/page3.htm

I used that VDM sound program with SB16 settings, General MIDI. I think it also had some Joystick and VESA settings which I had to have switched off. I couldn't test the sound settings from the setup program, but that's no biggie.

You have to run the game in bog standard VGA mode. Picking any of the VESA modes causes it to lock up when starting :(

Maybe when the VESA setting in VDM works properly, all will be solved.

After you've done that amount of work, you'll be happy to know that the game 'should' run.

So if you ever decide to have a blast when you get it back, that lot should help ya :)
