kombolcha
i've tried it once in my dodge.. when it was raining.. i pulled off a really nice left turn.. i made a u-turn to do it again.. over steer, lost control and ALMOST went up the curb and hit a wall.. stopped right infront of the sidewalk curb.. after that i went to an empty parking lot. :p but my car is in no way made for drifting.. i only do it when its really raining.. not to hard then. gigapixels Veteran Posted January 28, 2005 Veteran Share Posted January 28, 2005 I've tried it a couple times in my Civic... Nothing special, just some wide left turns when it was nice and wet from rain. But I'm no pro ;)
Shifty
Drifting as in the art of "sliding" while turning. example of pro Pro Video 2.4MB example of amature Amature Video *not 56k friendly* it can be a life style as well. right now im working on getting a 86 celica supra (non turbo  ) the best part about it is that its got a DOHC I6 motor @ 150HP/145ftlbs and a clutch type LSD!!! just needs about $1000 of parts and labor and its *skkkrrrrrrrrtt* time!!! do-ri-fu-to = japanese pronounciation of "drift"

But I'm no pro ;) 585371959 FF drifting involves massive e-brake knowledge. I can drift any FF vehicle in any weather condition. if you have light car like a civic its cake. lets say you are taking a right turn on to a road.... take it a bit faster than normal. as you turn, tap the brake pedal enough to transfer the car's weight forward. clutch kick into second and quickly pull up the e-brake for a half second, enough to lock up the rear tires to slide out. **remember to ALWAYS hold down the ebrake button!!** last but not least... counter steer as needed!! all this must happen very quickly. kombolcha
i just wanted to add to your post^ always use someone elses car :p EDIT: what are the chances of breaking off your tire/axel or even messing some parts up while drifting in dry conditions in your average car.. like taures, cavalier, civic...? Shifty
it depends on suspension and tires and a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) a good way to ruin a car is if it has all of these specifications... - loose suspension (a lot of roll when turning) a car with a loose or worn suspension has a likely hood of flipping at high speeds. haveing a lowered or stiff suspension will eliminate this. - sticky rear tires (too much friction = bad) generally when i drift my Altima is have crappy tires in the rear and good sticky ones in the front. you dont want tires that have tread showing or not drive worthy (safety first) i use used tires with decent tread. i get a good slide but not too much or too little. - LSD 99% of passenger cars DO NOT have a LSD What an LSD is Rear wheel drive cars most likley have an LSD. without one when you accelerate and turn one tire will grip with the other spins super fast. this is a huge safety and traction issue!! when the free spinning tire hits the ground it could spin the car out of control!! its good to have LSD for a FR car!! these are all mainly safety factors. the most common damage to a car that can happen is a broken camber or warped rim. but its rare. ive drifted many of cars and never damaged it *knocks on wood* well i did mess up my front bumper drifting in the snow...

threetonesun
lol, no. In the snow, sure, but not in the dry. My car is AWD, the kind of speed necessary to pull of sweet drifts in it would scare me :p
Blues
you can do 4wd drifts. Its mad pro. Me myself I dont own a "drift" machine. But I can do all kinds of fun in my friends' miata's, silvia's and r33. Im also a bit of the resident mechanic / tuner. Its all good though, im gettin an evo once i grad from college (aka next jan)
david
- LSD 99% of passenger cars DO NOT have a LSD 585372158 Damn, i wanted to trip. :ninja: I like drifting in my prelude :)
JiveMasterT
before i changed my tires i was easily able to get my eclipse gsx sideways... just go into a turn, weight transfer, and then mash it. i had to get new tires though cause the old ones didnt pass inspection. i got a good set of all season z rated tires and now i just mash it through turns and cant get sideways, BUT i can take them much faster than i used to be able to, even while sideways. but in the snow, oh boy, i love the snow. j0sh
Damn, i wanted to trip. :ninja: I like drifting in my prelude :) 585373822 Umm, bud, you can't drift the Prelude. It's FWD and you can get the rear to slide out, but it's hard to get it to continue w/o using the e-brake (not safe at all in a FWD car). What year do you have? arn't eclipse's FWD. FWD drifting isn't truely 'drifting' 585375598 Some Eclipse models are AWD, but that doesn't make it any easier. And I thought it was dorifto (dori is also used), not dorifuto. If so, nice choice! 585376826 its the MKII!! its so sweet!! its got the old school boxy shape and i found that if i get a 6MGTE (twin turbo) and shed some weight, it can be a mid 9 second 1/4 mile car  but RWD is the way to drift Im trying to find a video of a japanese guy in a tricked out civic hatch that does FF drifting. you are right though, TRUE drifting requires FR cars, but damn is it fun in FF!!
