Well Yamaha has some nice lower cost options for people with a budget and, while I'm still a budding home theater guy and don't have hands on experience with the high end stuff, most of my buds who have worked with it all seem to prefer Denon for their overall sound and construction quality.

don't forget the Pioneer Elite series....

you also have the Sony ES, Harman Kardon, Onkyo... anything but Bose.  :)

yep...I agree he should have put more options on the pole. I didn't vote...because I've never owned any of those three that he listed.

I do own a Pioneer Elite 45TX and  it. I've heard good reviews on the Sony ES series (not the vanilla line...sort of like Pioneer where the vanilla line is not good).

cscheatsforyou - if you are trying to make a purchase decision...don't go by the poll alone. Check out www.hometheaterforum.com , www.avsforum.com as those forums have some great reviews and links to all your home theater questions/products.

Come on my god dennon no offense but dennon is pure junk. now sony and the others are good but laughing dennon. uhhhh no. dennons here are like300-400$ thats pretty low end. now hk and onkyo is a different story those are sweet. and bose is nice but too high priced.

I did not vote for Denon just because their prices can be way out there. I personally have 2 Sony receivers. They were the cheapest with the features I wanted at the time. I have had one for about a year and the other for a few years. I have never had any problems with either. I had to vote for Onkyo to tie it up :p

Denon, by far wins this race. I have been involved in custom home theater prof installation sine 96...and nothing in this range comes close. For the money, Denon has something on every single price level. You can get an AVR1604 that has PLENTY of power (for its price range) and also has 6.1 capability, and 5/6 channel stereo...for like 330 bucks. Thats crazy.

The major difference between Denon and the rest is how they rate their amps. Sony will be glad to slap a 100x5 (wattage) sticker on their POS amps and ship em out the door. But a "100" watt sony amp cant touch a 65 watt Denon amp. Denon has a seperate amp PER CHANNEL. That is huge. Thats how they enable true 5/6 channel stereo...with much less distortion...and much greater sound quality than sony.

Onkyo has some decent high end stuff...but it doesnt touch Denon or Marantz when it comes to sound quality. And their lower price range stuff really cant run with Denon.

I have worked with Sony, Pioneer in great detail...and they too fall short.

If you want to shell out 10k and get something better than Denon, you can...its called McIntosh.

To the one who said Denon was complete junk, I hope you were joking.
